How much?
It never happened to me before: crying for not having a chance to talk to one of my best friends. I just think about her, for more than a month. I’m some how nervous for her risky decisions. Yet, she is happy and healthy in a pretty good European country.
And now, I’m listening to Mark Knopfler’s Shangri-La which she bought me about two years ago. Hmm, she is happy and I have to be happy for her. I can’t call her and if I could, it wouldn’t take the place of her smile…
Immigrating to other countries (so-called first world!) for searching better life opportunities, it’s the road Iranians, especially young generation is driving on. Is it the best road? Why aren’t other roads parallel?
Everybody pays, he sings. He doesn’t know how much. Neither do I.

Hey Parastoo! thanx for the reply! so u're planning to go to Canada!!!?? what an incidence!! well I'm in the capital of Canada myself!
if u wanna hear my advice, well if u're really going to come JUST for studying and u see the guts of it in yourself, then go for it!! if u can handle the huge amounts of tuition fees, then go for it!
Parastoo, if I may ask, what r u planning to study in Canada!?
parastoo:
well, it sounds great: having you there, getting some advices. I gonna study something related to media. gender and media is my favorite and journalism itself is good too. I will see...

I hope you can talk to your friend soon. Maybe you can visit her on your way to Canada. Can you chat?
I smiled at your remark about the "first world". I think that Europeans were still living in caves when ancient Iranians were building one of the first civilizations!
parastoo:
she doesn't have enough time to chat. and getting other countries' visas is like going to hell here in Iran!
and dear david, see, I don't talk about history things.tell me what remains from the very ancient civilized society?

As far as Immigration is concerned, it has worked for some but not for all, it is just that you have to prepare yourself for different platform. By the way, I hope that you have got in touch with your friend.
parastoo:
thanks alot. she called me today. :P

O.K. for Journalism I know they do have it here for sure and its a favourite major for Canadians too, specially females! :)
But the thing is that u'd have to be pretty strong in speaking and writing english cuz in these streams there're several essay and journal writings, lots of discussion sessions and so on. so u have to be pretty good in english inorder to handle it easily! Parastoo, what r u doing currently in iran in order to improve ur english, if I may ask??
parastoo:
well, I know the difficulties and I'm doing many things to improve my english. reading books and news as much as I can, watching TV series and movies and also having a very good friend/teacher/counselor. do you have any more recommandations?

Dear Parastoo, most of what I know about ancient Iran I have learned from our mutual friend Khodadad. Perhaps he is better qualified to answer your question. Do you feel that present day Iran is not a civilized society?
parastoo:
I feel so. but as you said, it's better to leave these aspects to specialists like khodadad.

I guess this comment is in response to a previous post. I think you'll find that there aren't many people anywhwere who *want* war with Iran. It's your president's sabre rattling and support of groups like Hezbollah that's attracting attention.
PS - why the "so-called" first world? Are we really the ones behind the times, and the future is women in burkas who cannot vote? I assumed Iranian women would have an appreciation for the freedoms women enjoy in the west. Anyway, thanks for blogging.
